Madly & Wolfhardt (Madly #2) by M. Leighton

Book Description:

Madly is your average nearly-eighteen year old girl—for a princess, that is.

Madly James is thoroughly enjoying her internship in the small town of Slumber when the unthinkable happens—there’s a prison break in Atlas, the magically-protected home of Madly’s race. A traitor has set free eight Lore, the spirits of what humans know as fairy tales, and they are making their way to Slumber to awaken their descendants.

The first spirit to arrive is that of Ulrich Wolfhardt, a man that was once obsessed with wolves and a young maiden he would follow through the woods. After a bite from a wolf, Wolfhardt’s obsession with the girl became an unnatural hunger and the young maiden’s grandmother cursed him with a fate worse than death. And now he’s back…with a vengeance and a bite that can infect others as well.

Madly must learn the identity of Wolfhardt’s descendant and stop him before he kills again and spreads his curse across the earth. But the only person strong enough to help Madly is Jackson, the Sentinel who vowed to protect her and the one person capable of breaking her heart. Can Madly resist forbidden love long enough to save the world from Wolfhardt? Or will she have to sacrifice her heart and her destiny to save the ones she loves?
Christina's BookReview

“I felt Jackson's strength flowing from him, from his skin, into me. It poured into my palms and ran in waves up my arms to flood my body. My scalp tingled with it. My lungs expanded with it. My soul danced with it. My heart burst with it."

In the first official installment of the Madly series we pick up a few days after the novella ended. After realizing that she must capture the Lore in order to save Atlas Madly is faced with her first real “Warden Princess” duty. She must capture the first descendant coming to Slumber. Ulrich Wolfhardt, which in our human world is known as the “wolf” from Red Riding Hood. With some craftiness she is able to quickly find the descendant of the young maiden. As she works to befriend the girl to keep her safe, Madly comes to terms with what she is really meant to do and just how much of a part she plays in saving her home. She must also deal with the world wind love/dislike relationship that she and Jackson are in.

Will Madly be able to save her home? Will she discover who the Wolfhardt descendant is before it is too late?

When I read Madly, the novella, I was quickly enchanted with the storyline of this series and couldn’t wait to continue to read on. I loved the whole Mer aspect and the way Mrs. Leighton weaved in the fairytale theme. I loved all the characters introduced and as I continued with Madly & Wolfhardt I was not disappointed. The plot just got more fascinating.

Madly is trying to save Kellina, the descendant of the young maiden, by figuring out just who the Wolfhardt descendant is and eliminating him so that she can save Atlas. All the while she is trying hard to control the “ties” that are binding her to Jackson. It is wrong for her to love a Sentinel because it is forbidden and because she is set to marry Aidan, her best friend. But she doesn’t feel anything but sisterly love for him. Her feelings for Jackson however are all abiding. Her feelings however don’t stop her from being one stubborn and headstrong female protag. I loved that she didn’t let Jackson push her around. Although she was overly stubborn at times I still enjoyed the realness in her. I did find it frustrating that she wouldn’t open up to Jersey, her best friend, about what was going on but also understood why she didn’t. I enjoyed her relationship with Aidan and how she didn’t turn her back on him when things got rough or awkward.

Jackson is doing his job as Madly’s Sentinel. He will do anything to keep her safe, not only because it is his job. Jackson, just like Madly, knows what’s going on between them. He tries to fight it because of the known dilemma but fails miserably. Madly’s soul calls to him like his does to her. But Jackson must first help her save Atlas and the people they love. Jackson unfailing love and protection of Madly is what will have readers head over heels for him. Not to mention the fact that he is incredibly gorgeous and a great brother to Jersey! If you wonder why so many girls are “Hooked on Jackson” then this book will serve as your answer! Mrs. Leighton knows how to give us swoon worth guys and Jackson is topping that list! :-)

If you LOVED the novella you will LOVE this installment of the series! Pick it up! You will not be disappointed!
