The Mayfair Moon (Darkwoods #1) by J. A. Redmerski

Book Description:

What if you knew when someone was going to die?

After a nightmarish encounter with a werewolf, seventeen-year-old Adria Dawson loses her sister, but gains the love of a mysterious young man and his legendary family.

Strange and tragic things begin to happen in the small town of Hallowell, Maine: residents come down with an unexplainable ‘illness’ and some disappear. In the midst of everything, Isaac Mayfair is adamant about keeping Adria safe, even from her sister whom he has warned her to stay away from.

As unspeakable secrets unfold all around Adria, impossible choices become hers to bear. Ultimately, no matter what path she takes, her life and the lives of those she loves will be in peril. As she learns about the werewolf world she also learns why her place in it will change the destinies of many.

RECAP:

Adria Dawson hasn’t had the best upbringing. With an abusive step=father and a nonchalant mother the only family Adria has is her sister Alex. Eventually they are removed from their home and relocated to Hallowell, ME with their uncle. In Maine, Alex starts to act weird and eventually disappears which leaves Adria all alone.

After the attack in their old hometown Adria is positive that other beings exist. There was no way she was imagining it. There is something wrong with her sister and she is hell bent on figuring out what it is.

Isaac Mayfair might be cold and a jerk but he holds the answers she seeks. Not to mention he is also the first guy that has made her heart beating erratically. Adria is about to find out that what she suspects is true and things will never be the same for her.

MY TAKE:

I have to say I did like this book. I however didn’t enjoy it as much as I was looking forward too. It was filled with too many Twilight similarities, going as far as using the same words. I was upset because it was a good storyline but fell flat to me.

Adria was annoying and got herself into the predicaments she was thrown into. I understood her need to help her sister but found her methods and thoughts to be childish and selfish. There were times were she was not a “weak” protag but then in the next paragraph she was.

I liked when Isaac was being a jerk and thought that the whole “change” in him would be cool. Unfortunately it doesn’t take long for him to fall madly in love with Adria, so it was a letdown.

I will probably continue the series at a later date.

Wolves, War, Love. If you like all three then you will probably like this book.

  1. I've heard good things about this book, but never good enough to make me really want it! Think I will probably hold off on this one :)
