REVIEW: Storm (Elementals #1) by Brigid Kemmerer

Storm (Elemental, #1)
Book Description:

Becca Chandler is suddenly getting all the guys all the ones she doesn't want. Ever since her ex-boyfriend spread those lies about her. Then she saves Chris Merrick from a beating in the school parking lot. Chris is different. Way different: he can control water just like his brothers can control fire, wind, and earth. They're powerful. Dangerous. Marked for death.

And now that she knows the truth, so is Becca.

Secrets are hard to keep when your life's at stake. When Hunter, the mysterious new kid around school, turns up with a talent for being in the wrong place at the right time, Becca thinks she can trust him. But then Hunter goes head-to-head with Chris, and Becca wonders who's hiding the most dangerous truth of all.

The storm is coming...

MY REVIEW
“So…why is your brother mean to girls?”
“Because,” said Michael from the doorway, “I have three younger brothers who think it’s hilarious to parade jailbait through here on a daily basis.”
His tone was enough to make her glad she’d worn the pullover into the house. “No one told me there was a parade,” she said acidly. “And here I forgot my banner.”
Becca has grown up with the passion to help others, even if those others bully and harass her at school. One day while leaving her self-defense class she stumbles upon two guys beating the crap out of a student. Against her better judgement Becca runs to his rescue and helps Chris get home safely. But the guys she scared off have an agenda. One that suddenly includes Becca.

The day that Becca saved Chris is the day trouble followed her.

Chris Merrick is used to dealing with the bullying but the one place he can’t defend himself is where there is no water. See Chris is a water element and in order to harness his power he must have it near him. Without it Chris is defenseless, which is the moment Becca crashes into his life.

Although Chris wants it to just be a one-time thing Chris can’t help but easily fall for Becca and want to save her from the wrath of his predators. While Chris tries to keep he and his brothers powers a secret he must also deal with Hunter, the guy that is interested in Becca.

During the progression of the story we also meet the rest of the Merrick boys as well as Becca’s best friend Quinn. There is Gabriel who it hot-headed and stubborn; Nick who is protective, caring and the peacemaker; and Michael who is strict, harsh, and determined. Together the Merrick boys form a bond that can never be broken but also become more powerful than anyone knows. Then there is Quinn, who is Becca’s best friend and has problems of her own. Although she is a good friend there is a lot of tension between the two which makes you feel for their friendship. She was straightforward but also very rambunctious.

With a great cast of characters, Storm will have you on the edge of your seat. It will have you laughing through the funny parts and cringing through the rough parts. The only thing I was disappointed with in this story was the lack of romance between Chris and Becca. I felt that the buildup for Becca and Hunter was much more of the basis in this book than the one with Chris, which makes no sense to me. I also wished there were a better ending to this book because I felt like Becca and Chris's story didn't end.

Buy it. Read it. Enjoy it.

Happy Reading!
